OUR STORY
"After hearing a performance by Jieun & Greg, you may get the feeling this duo is tapping into something deep below the surface."
— Bethany Bushen, Behind the Setlist
Jieun & Greg are a dynamic indie folk-soul duo led by Korean American vocalist, Jieun Ko, and guitarist, Gregory Ko. With powerhouse vocals, emotionally resonant lyrics, and an undeniably captivating stage presence, these two tap into something deep below the surface. Sonically weaving in stories about Jieun’s Asian American identity, her immigrant upbringing, her emotional health journey, and her interracial marriage with Greg, their music is refreshingly real and honest, creating a safe space to hold all the complexities that come with the human experience.
Jieun & Greg met in Los Angeles in January 2013, while working together at Liberty in North Korea, a nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing and resettling North Korean refugees. In January 2015, they both decided to leave their full-time jobs to pursue careers in music together. In October 2016, they released their debut EP, “Small but Fortunate,” and in December 2018, they released an acoustic Christmas EP called “Act II.”
Over the last six years, Jieun & Greg have completed multiple cross-country tours with Sofar Sounds, an organization that curates intimate shows all around the world. In May 2021, they started a podcast called Gajok, a podcast about the joys, the struggles, and the beauty of being Asian American. In December 2022, they plan on releasing their second EP as an homage to Jieun’s maternal grandparents.
